The Origin of Montana Pitch-Blend
Leather Dressing and Leather Oil
The formula for Montana Pitch-Blend was
born out of a combination of necessity, accident, and
old-fashioned ingenuity on a cold, snowy day in Montana's
Bob Marshall Wilderness.
An outfitter and his hunting party were suffering from
cold, wet feet because the various waterproofing leather
treatments they were using on their boots simply did not
work.

One evening, as the
guide put logs on the fire, he picked up one that was
laden with pitch.
Recalling how Native Americans have long used pitch to
waterproof everything from leather footwear to bark
canoes, he added a lump of pitch to his can of mink oil
and beeswax boot dressing and heated them together over
the camp stove
until the mixture was blended.
He applied it to everyone's boots and, for the rest of
the hunt,
he and his clients enjoyed warm, dry feet.

When word of this new
boot dressing got out, the outfitter began receiving
requests for his special blend from hunters, loggers,
horse owners and other serious outdoor enthusiasts. All who used it were
impressed by how incredibly effective it was at keeping
their feet dry and at protecting and preserving their
boots and other leather goods.

Since that time,
bowhunters, firearm hunters,
equestrians, ranch and farm workers, linemen,
construction workers, motorcycle enthusiasts, loggers,
and others who work and play in the outdoors have come to
rely upon Montana Pitch-Blend for premium leather
conditioning
and long-lasting protection against the elements
for all their leather gear.
